Little Tums is proud to hold a Gold Heathy Choice Award which has been held for each one of its menus since the award was launched.
We are proud to say that we were the first nursery and school catering provider who achieved and maintains the Gold approval for this award.
The HCA is an accreditation earnt by business’s that submit their menus, ingredients, and cooking methods to a team of independent nutritionists who evaluate the data and conclude if the meals being offered meet the daily nutritional needs for children of a nursery school age. Perfect for the demographic of our business.
The standards for the award are based on the Soil Association Food for Life Standards and so cover healthy eating as well as sustainable procurement. Some keys points we must meet are:
Supporting the provision of healthy and sustainable food
Requiring a large proportion of ingredients to be from environmentally friendly and ethical systems, for example, Fair Trade
Sourcing of local produce, produce from the local region and from the UK
Taking steps to make healthy eating easier for customers, such as by reducing salt and sugar and using wholegrain ingredients.
Ensuring we prepare and cook ingredients using healthy cooking methods.
Fulfilling children’s recommended daily nutritional needs.
Offering a variety of meals from around the world.
We must also commit that 75 per cent of dishes are freshly prepared. We however ensure 100% of our dishes are freshly prepared.
